Here we move on to practice exercises for the academic word list sublist 8a.

In the first exercise you check your knowledge of the words, and in the second exercise you practice usage of the words in a gap fill.

These are words 1 - 10 from sublist 8a.

Exercise 1

Which of the above AWL words do you know? Match the definitions to the word:

1. expressing something that has more than one possible meaning, sometimes on purpose

2.  to go with someone to a particular place, often a social event

4. the act of favouring one particular side unfairly, based on personal opinion

Choose which word will fit in the gap:

1. Moving house is going to be a nightmare! I’ve so many things over the last 15 years I don’t know what I am going to do with it all.

2. The people that were chosen by the company to go on the training seemed very . They should have picked people who had been employed the longest but it was completely random.
