Remark
by: IELTS buddy

Hi Raj,

It needs to be your decision but it seems fairly clear that you are around the 5.5 / 6 level for your writing and speaking as you have got the same score 3 times.

So I would guess they would more than likely not change if you got a remark. Of course reading and listening are not likely change as they are right or wrong, there is no subjective marking with those.

want good score in writing and reading
by: Mannat

Hi IELTS Buddy,

Your page is easy to understand. I like to study with your site. This is so useful. I given my ielts test on October 2014 and i got 5.5 overall marks (listening 5.5, reading 5, writing 5.5, speaking 6.5) but i need 7 band. I want to improve my writing and my reading is so bad because when i read i understand whole passage but when i answer i don't get good marks. so i am very disappointed with my performance. i can do good in listening and speaking but please suggest me how to do practice reading and writing, and how much hours in a day i need to spend on study. one more thing i am not good in grammar so what should i learn for writing in grammar. i have booked my test again on 12th march.

Thanks & regards
Mannat

Want good score in reading and writing
by: IELTS buddy

Hi Mannat,

It's really not possible to tell someone how to improve their score in a short message. There are so many tips which is why this site, and other IELTS sites, are large.

You need to go through the reading pages on this site and practice the strategies and also just read generally as much as you can.

I can't advise on your grammar without a proper assessment of your writing unfortunately.

Good luck

Best way for writing and reading
by: Katre brami the software engineer

HI mannat.

Firstly, I wish you all the best for your prep. The best way to get good score is by reading news papers, particularly Hindu editorial. As I saw so many grammatical mistakes in your way of conveying. so, i wish you to focus more on the headlines of the paper, and how well he constructed it, and take down some vocabulary which you think would help you. Keep this as your daily routine. After a week subconsciously you will see a drastic change

For reading you just leave every procedure you followed till date. Just take a rc and start doing don't mind your time. Just you practice it. After a week you start doing with time. You will see the change

Speaking EOR
by: Biboy

Hi sir, i got my ielts result L: 7.5. Reading: 6.5 W: 6.0 Speaking: 6.5. Obs= 6.5... I am really desperate bcoz this is my 2nd time and exactly the same. The gap of my test was 3 months. Should I file for EOR for my speaking b'coz i need 7.0 so that i can apply for Visa screening? Thank you so much for response.

You can go my boy. In this case, if you got any change in your score, money will be credited back into your account. If not, you will loss your money. Moreover I can't give you full assurance to apply or not in this case. it's all depends on your financial situation. If you are sound enough apply for it if else book a slot and study well and get a good score which is required for your visa.

0.5 in one section, with the rest grades very high
by: greek39

Greetings from Greece...
My trf arrived with :

an overall band score 8

a reading score : 9
a listening score : 9
a speaking score : 7.5
and unfortunately a writing score : 6.5

i needed overall 7.5 and in all sections a 7...

so i have asked for a re marking but also applied for repeating the test...

Is the difference of 2 band scores between ANY section the cause of automatic re checking? or difference of 2 band scores between speaking and writing specifically? I am very frustrated...

same situation as above
by: nariman

I have got the same situation, on 4th of March I received my results as follows: L-8, R-7.5, W-6.5, S-8.

I need all bands to be 7.

That was my 7th attempt.
At previous attempt no. 6 I got 6.5 as well but I clearly remember my mistakes and deficiencies in writing part.

Whereas this time I wrote very well and at least a way better than previous time, therefore I applied for remark and also booked the next exam.

The admin of IELTS test center told me that if there is difference in 2 bands between any section then it is automatically rechecked by a different examiner.

I don't know if it is true or they only recheck writing if there is difference between writing and speaking only?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Remark Success
by: Jo

I applied for EOR 6 weeks ago as I got the following scores:

L-8.0 R-8.5 W-7.0 S-6.5

I needed 7.0 in all modules. Got the result today and my Speaking improved from 6.5 to 7.0. So don't lose hope and take risk when you're confident that you did well. :)

should I get my writing re-marked
by: Anonymous

Hi
I am getting L8 R 7 w 6.5 s8 and my concern is whether I should go for remarking in writing as I need a 7 in all bands and in my previous attempts I managed to get a band 7 to 7.5 in writing and is it possible that two markers have already marked my paper.
Any response will be appreciated.
Thanks.

should I get my writing re-marked
by: IELTS buddy

Hi,

There are a few situations where a paper may get looked at twice but it's impossible for you to know that. You can assume it probably didn't as most don't.

So it's really just a gamble and only you can make that decision.

remark
by: Mohamed Samir

Dear Sir

I have received my IELTS results on as follows:
L 6, R 6, w 7, S 5.5

Noting that my previous attempt last year was:

L 5.5, R 5.5, w 5.5, S 6.5

Should I ask for remarking the speaking section?. I need only a half band score in speaking to become 6. Consequently, my overall score will also increase to be 6.5.

by: IELTS buddy

Hi Mohamed,

I must admit, it does seem odd to go down from a 6.5 to a 5.5. That is quite a big difference in speaking ability.

Also, it is clear that you have been improving as your other scores have all gone up.

So there is a good argument there for getting a remark, but it's really up to you as nobody can say for sure how you did in the speaking test.

It's always going to be a bit of a gamble.

IELTS writing
by: Anonymous

Hi there, I got following bands in my IELTS test.

L=6.5
R=6.5
W=5.5
S=6

I need at least 6 bands in all modules. In my opinion, I did well in writing. I need some advice. Should I go for a remark??

unsatisfied
by: pawan kumar

Recently I have got overall 5.5 and 6 in reading, 6 in speaking, 5.5 in listening, 5 in writing.

I am totally unsatisfied with my writing module scores. I need only 0.5 band more in writing for getting a visa.

Should I go for rechecking pllzz... suggest me

by: IELTS buddy

Hi Pawan,

Your other scores seem to be around the 5.5 / 6 range, so your writing score may well be correct.

There is nothing to suggest it is wrong, but there is no way to predict if it could increase if you get a remark. It's possible.

It's a gamble and it's up to you to decide but as it's around the same price to sit the whole test again you may be better off doing that, and work on improving your writing before you take the test again.

Lower writing score
by: IELTS buddy

Hi Het,

There is not a great deal of difference between your writing score and some of your others, such as reading.

So it may be a bit risky to get a remark but as I've said before it's really up to you.

Nobody can know if it will change or not.

Re-marking of IELTS result
by: Jason

Hi!

I got the following score for my IELTS Academic last April 30.

L - 8
R - 8.5
W - 6.5
S - 7.5

O - 7.5

I really needed to score at least a 7 in all modules. Do you think I have a chance of raising my writing score to 7 if I go for the EOR?

speaking revaluation
by: gurjinder

speaking re-evaluation
by: IELTS buddy

Hi Gurjinder,

That does seem odd to go from 6 to 4.5. That is a very big difference in speaking skills.

Of course your speaking can't have suddenly got that much worse.

It is of course possible that when you got assessed before your score was too high and maybe you were around the 5/5.5 area

This is just guessing of course because I can't hear your speaking to know what level you really are.

So it seems quite possible if you get a remark it may go up but remember it may not, and it may not even go up to a 6 if it does.

Remark for Writing
by: Anonymous

Hi,

I just got my second ielts results recently with L8.5, R7.5, S7, W6.

I think that I performed better in writing when compared with my first exam (the writing score was 6 either).

Do you think that I have a chance to upgrade my writing score from 6 to 6.5 if I require re-mark?

Thank you!

Band 6 twice
by: IELTS buddy

Nobody can predict that, but the fact that you have got 6 twice does seem to suggest you are around that band, so it doesn't look like anything has gone wrong with the marking.

My score is Listening - 9, Reading - 6.5, Writing - 7, Speaking - 7.

This was my 1st attempt in General IELTS. Is there any option for me as I am targeting working in Australia (except reappearing again).

Speaking
by: IELTS buddy

Hi Jacques,

You should for a remark if it looks like the result is wrong but you haven't said anything to suggest that it may actually be a mistake.

7.5 is a good score so you obviously did well.

Got a low score in writing
by: Anonymous

Hi

My IELTS Academic test result is mentioned below.

L 8.5
R 8.5
S 8.5
W 7.0

I need an 8 in all bands for immigration purposes. This is the second time I have given this test and last time I got:

L 8.5
R 8.5
S 7.5
W 8.5

And considering the fact that my written exam this time went really well, even when compared to last time. Should I apply for remarking for the written part? Do the bands actually get better after remarking?

I really feel I had done better than the score suggests.

Best Regards,
Anuj

Got a low score in writing
by: IELTS buddy

Hi Anuj,

Some people's scores will change, some will not. It's impossible to put a figure on it.

In your situation it may well be worth considering a remark as you are obviously a very good writer (you got 8.5 before) and 7 is quite a big drop from that.

The fact that you are a competent writer and good at English generally means that you more likely to be able to have an idea if the score is wrong.

But of course the 7 may be correct as we have no idea of knowing if you did do something wrong in the Task 1 and 2 (maybe misunderstanding the questions in some way so not fully answering them - this can bring your score down quite a bit).

I would seriously consider it in your case but there are no guarantees, so it's really up to you.

Should I get a remark?
by: Jen

Hi, my name is Jen and I took my first IELTS test back in 2016 with the following result:

L: 8.0
R: 7.0
W: 6.0
S: 6.0

And earlier this month, I took the test again and just got the following result:

L: 8.0
R: 8.5
W: 6.0
S: 5.5

I was thinking of getting my scores remarked. Do you have any suggestions for me? Thanks in advance.

Should I get a remark?
by: IELTS buddy

It is not common to have such big score differences between the modules. However, you have taken the test twice and both times got around the 6 mark for writing and speaking which does seem to suggest that your level may be around 6.

It's less likely to be a marking error by the examiner if it has happened twice though of course it's impossible to predict what could happen if you went for a remark.
