Hi,

Could you please help me with the following question?

Questions 36-40

Below is the list of steps in the kraft process of turning wood chips into paper, which are numbered 1-8.

Only FIVE of the steps listed below are mentioned in the Reading Passage 3.

Decide which steps are mentioned and write the appropriate number for each step in the correct order in the boxes 36-40 on your answer sheet

1 the chips are cooked
2 the fibres are bound by lignin
3 the pulp is bleached
4 woodchips are put into a pile
5 the pulp is dried
6 the pulp is removed from the black liquor
7 the chips are put into the white liquor
8 the pulp is washed

The correct answers are:

36-4
37-7
38-1
39-8
40-6

My answers were:

36-7
37-1
38-8
39-6
40-3

Do I loose all the five marks or just one mark?

Following Instructions in the IELTS Reading
by: IELTS buddy

Hi,

You would not get any marks as it clearly says:

"Decide which steps are mentioned and write the appropriate number for each step in the correct order in the boxes 36-40 on your answer sheet."

You have not written them in the right order so none of them match.

You'd therefore get none of the points.

It's really important that you carefully read and follow all of the instructions for the questions in all parts of the IELTS test.

A mistake like that would lose you 4 points (or 5 if you had got them all right).

That could mean you dropping a half or even a whole band for your reading result.
