Tips For Listening
by: Zeki

Dear Friend,

Dont worry!

You must do practice everyday and you must know some tips about the listening.

For example, Look at the first question and try to predict it. Afterwards, underline the keywords. For example, if there is written in your sheet "date" or "$" you can predict it.

Certainly, firstly you must underline the keywords and concentrate on the speakers. Don't listen just focus on keywords. This is essential tips.

Check out some of the tips that are on this website (see the lessons pages) but apart from that it is really just practice that is needed to improve your listening. Any kind of listening practice will help, it doesn't need to be IELTS but you should also do IELTS practice tests.

Problems with part 2 that involves listening and filling answers from the box
by: Mariam

Hello Buddy, I am having problems with sorting which one the answer should be, from the box, with limited time. Take for instance, the section that talks about the radio interview of the PR officer of Rivernden Theatre. How do i cope with interpreting the changes to fit whats in the box in so little time?

Kindly reply. God bless.

Problems with part 2
by: IELTS buddy

I'd like to provide you with specific tips for that but really it just improves as you get better at listening.

Apart from that you just need to take note of the usual tips such as reading the questions first, predicting what you'll hear, underlining key words etc.

You'll find all the listening tips on this site.

Thanks and good luck.

IELTS Listening Tips from a Band 9 Candidate

by Sarah Peo
(Townsville, QLD, Australia)

I took my last IELTS exam on January 31, 2015. I was happy to get a 9 in listening. I would like to share a few tips to those who are to write their exam as I come from a non English speaking country.

1. When you prepare for the exam, just prepare by reading through articles, hearing news online and in television, see movies in English and not with English subtitles.

2. Try taking a test per day or per 3 days, as per your convenience. Just take it regularly.

3. Above all, the most important tip is to be confident when you sit in the exam. Do not think you will miss something, be positive minded and read through your questions in advance before hearing.

If I can get it, you can get it too.

All the best!!!

Listening tips
by: Adnan

Dear Friend

I was worried about listening but day to day with practice I got confidence.

1. You should read completely before listening and underline key words like date, name, dollar, mobile number, credit card number.

2. If you prepared with respect to loud speaker so you should test on loud speaker, if you practice on head phone you should test on head phone. Must be, otherwise you will lose majorly.

3. Start your practice directly from section 4 daily basis then you will realize whole test like butter.

NEVER. LOSE. CONCENTRATION.

by Samuel
(London)

For the Listening test you strictly have to remember these 3 words: NEVER. LOSE. CONCENTRATION.

During the Listening test don't you ever think about nothing but the Listening test.

And if you are not able to understand one part of the listening just leave it and keep listening, focus on the next questions because if you focus on one part of the listening you will miss the rest of it. 100%

Make the habit of listening to English talk shows on radio and TV. LBC is a good radio station running round the clock which I myself listen to and it really helps, here is the link www.lbc.co.uk

listening 7.5
by: Anonymous

I used to get 5.0 on the listening section and 7.5in 6 months later. It drastically so improved, I would commend u to listening IELTS preparation on youtube it has 2 seasons which consists of a ton of episodes ( listening to it everyday, or convert files to be mp3 and listening as much as possible. plus, when u r listening , try to break the words into individuals. It sounds funny, but it works though.

I'm yet to sit for my first exam but After having done some listening tests I noticed something that I would like to pass through.

As you all know that the recording will only be played once you will need to maintain focusing on the listening even when you are writing down the answer for a question because sometimes the answer for the next question would follow the previous one immediately.

So you might need to practice on writing quick answers and use abbreviations that you could come back at the end of section and rewrite them correctly.

MCQ Questions in Listening
by: M. Noman

Hello Dears,

Hope all is well.

I've also been struggling a bit for IELTS listening with correct scores down to 25.

However, with practice and advice of KEEP LISTENING, improved to >30, though I still have to practice a lot.

I specifically find it tough to cope with MCQ questions obviously because it contains lot of information. Reading both question and choices is not affordable as you've to focus on audio.

Any experts with suggestions for this?
