IELTS Computer Delivered Tests + Band Score

How do I improve my GT reading and writing?

by Sana

I need 7 bands in each module of General IELTS training. I have already given a shot on July 6th 2013 but got 5.5 in Reading and 6 in Writing though was able to score 7 each in Listening and Speaking.

What to do to score 7 in Reading and Writing modules? Important to note is that marking for General Reading test is much tougher than Academic.

Improving IELTS reading and writing
by: IELTS buddy

Hi,

Unfortunately it's difficult to give someone advice that will improve their overall score in one post like this.

There are too many tips and advice to go through. All I can suggest is following some of the IELTS lessons on this site.

I'm afraid there is not too much on the site at the moment for General Training. The writing Task 2 though is more or less the same for academic and general training.

Which practice test reflects the real difficulty level of IELTS test
by: Elango

HI All,

There are too many practice tests from various sources.
Can anyone help to map the difficulty level of the real IELTS test with any of the following practice tests:

1. Cambridge IELTS (1,2,3...8,9,10 and cambridge official guide for IELTS)

2. IDP Practice tests (Nexgen publishing) which we receive after booking exam in IDP

3. british council preparation and practice tests for ielts. Which we receive after booking exam in British council.

Please provide your feedback.
To mention IDP was really tough and I was able to make only 25 and 23 in listening and reading.

Hi Elango,

The Cambridge ones are actual real past tests, so they will be the same.

I have no experience of the others. Idp and BC admister the tests so I would guess they are very similar to the real thing.

My difficulties getting the IELTS score I need in the actual test

by Isaac
(Nigeria)

Its shocking to me to have written IELTS three times (the general Option) and yet not able to achieved the desired band scored.

The last one I wrote, I had 5.5 in listening, this was because immediately we were asked to start, I became so nervous that I could hardly hear what was going on. before I came back to myself, I have lost almost ten questions.

Writing, speaking and reading were okay except for the listening which I had that very ugly experience.

Looking back at what happened, I remembered I was under pressure to meet the December 31st deadline to submit my form and the only outstanding was IELTS test result, I allowed that to sink into me, the reason for the reaction in the exam hall.

I advise everyone who want to write the exam to be more relaxed, just focus on the exam on the exam day, that will be the best way to overcome all exams issues.

My experience had been either I made all except one, if I had been allowed to combine two result would have been ok. I just overcame the discouragement of the last one.

In my practice, I do perform excellently, but the result for the real exam doesn't reflect all the hard work expended in the exam.

I just want to take it for the last time, the very last time.

by Louise

Hello,

I'm in third year of Bachelor in Human and Social Sciences and I want to do an erasmus in two years, when I will be in second year of Master. Thus I think it's time to seeking advice for preparing myself to this test.

What will you recommend regarding the training?

What's the minimal grade to succeed?

Thanks in advance for your recommendations.

IELTS for Erasmus
by: IELTS buddy

Hi Louise,

It is too difficult to answer your questions.

Firstly, training is very dependent on your current skills. If they are quite good you may be ok just to use a website site such as this.

If you are weaker you may need classes too.

Also, it will depend on how much time you have.

Regarding admission grades - this is entirely up to the institution you are applying to so you would have to check with them.

Thanks

IELTS General Training Preparation
by: IELTS buddy

Hi Ritesh,

Asking about prep time if people don't know you is like asking 'how long is a piece of string?'.

It will vary for everyone. It depends what score you want to get and what your current level is. Only someone who has met you and checked your skills will be able to tell you that.

As for books, there are some self-study ones I've listed here:

IELTS books for self-study

But you are probably best to have a look somewhere like amazon and check out the reviews. See which ones people recommend.

Thanks and good luck

Is IELTS General training difficult?

by Ganesh
(India )

Hello,

I have booked Ielts GT on 21 November -2015, received book from IDP written by Andrew Betsis, I could observe that reading passages and questions are really tough and close to academic reading test. In fact they have written IELTS Upgrade practical test on the cover of book .

I am not getting more than 22 points from reading ..is it every body feels same or me only ?

But in general reading questions are pretty easy and score close to 30 easily

Regards,
Ganesh

It depends on the familiarity of your command over your English, almost majority of the students find difficulty in reading section either it might be academic or general. The main thing for reading sections is to understand main ideas and how does the author uses those ideas for that particular reading passage. The only way to score more in reading section is to practice several reading tests, reading magazines, news papers.
