Can I change my IELTS Speaking Test Date?

by Meet Pate
(Ahmedabad)

Is there anyone who changed the speaking test date due to any reason?

If yes, how early did you change and how much time did it take to apply the change?

I've booked my test for 28th Nov in a different city and I got the speaking test 5 days before the LRW test, which is 23rd Nov. They mailed me the speaking date confirmation mail on Saturday 21st Nov evening.

Unfortunately, I'm stuck at an event which is in a remote area from where travel options are not available. Today, Sunday 22nd Nov, all the offices are closed and can't contact them at all.

So is it possible to change the date tomorrow, on Monday 23rd Nov, on the day of the test (4:40 PM test) in the early morning?

(I'm concerned whether they will entertain my problem at such short notice and whether they'll be able to help me in such a short period of time.)

Thank You

Can I change my IELTS Speaking Test Date?

Postponing or changing your test date is not possible unless it is 5 weeks before your test (though it's possible if it's due to illness that you can prove). This is what is says on the BC site:

Requesting a test day transfer

If you need to change the date of your test from the date you originally booked, you can request a test day transfer up to five weeks before the test date, free of charge.

Please note that the new test date must be within three months of the original date. In cases of illness, transfer is possible within five weeks of the test if an original medical certificate is provided within three working days of the test date, together with the Request for Refund or Test Date Transfer Form.

If you receive a transfer to a new test date (either before the test or due to illness) and are ill on the second test date, then you are not entitled to a refund of the test fee nor to any further transfer to a new test date.

However, if you want the same day but just a different IELTS speaking test time, it is perhaps possible that they could accommodate that.

You need to ring the test centre where you booked and discuss it with them.

It's also worth noting that you can't have the speaking test on a different test date to your other modules - they have to all be part of the same test. So you won't be able for example to keep your W/R/L test on the date you've been given but then take your speaking on a later test date.
