IELTS Computer Delivered Tests + Band Score

Fixing of IELTS Scores

by Umar Sarfraz

I am pretty much convinced that IELTS result is distorted especially in some parts of Asia.

I have appeared a few times and noticed no matter what, you can not achieve the desired bands unless your are among lucky ones that fall in a certain quota.

If you score 8.5 in more than one module, most likely you will get 6 in one which is either writing or reading as these two are considered to be most difficult one. Even if you are lucky to score 7 or above in writing and 8.5 in other two. They will make sure not to give you over 6 in any one of the module.

This has happened 3 times with not only me but many others with me. There should be a way to stop IELTS testing body to refrain from making huge profits over and over from same applicant and be more accurate.

Fixing of IELTS Scores
by: IELTS buddy

Hi Umar,

I understand your frustration in not getting the scores you want, especially as of course you have to pay each time for the test.

However, they can't be fixed as you say.

Different people mark different parts of the test and nobody will know what you have in other parts. Different examiners will mark the speaking and writing parts of your test (and not know what the other has given) and the reading and listening are done by admin staff, and again it won't be the same people marking each.

The scores would only come together at the end and there would be records of what you were given for each so nobody is in a position to change them. And of course some people ask for remarks so it would get picked up if scores had been adjusted.

Procedures are also in place for people who end up with different scores. Let's say you got 6 in one part of the test, then 8.5 in another, that would be odd, so the test will get marked again. So rather than seeking to give candidates differing scores, procedures are used to double check that those kinds of differences are correct.

Good luck though in seeking to get the score you need.

ielts is scam

ielts bodies are playing tricks the English itself is not hard but the tricks they use in the tests are enormous . It is a money making "fake institute" since they can't survive without conning people who are desperate.

Try to practice harder and don't lose hope
by: Thomas

I can understand your frustration, but I would suggest you not to lose hope.

I have also heard about this issue, but I guess this is a very unfortunate event.

The best thing is to prepare hard and forget your failures. Try to devote some more time on IELTS training and also take some mock exams.

IELTS buddy will definitely help you with your IELTS preparation. If you want to have mock exams maybe you can try Magoosh or Exam-Practice. These 2 sites can be useful if you want to take mock exams and these will be very helpful with your situation.

It has happened to me as well. These folks know what bands test takers aim at and they make sure that they don't get them. How can you explain 9 9 8.5 and 6 writing?
