IELTS Listening Test Question Types

by Zackatron
(United States.)

Hello.

I have a question about the listening section of the IELTS exam.

I took the exam twice in 2015, once in the Middle East and one in England. And both exams have the same structure, all of them were multiple choice.

I'm about to take my third exam in the United States, and I bought some practice test books. But I was surprised to find out that the listening section in the practice tests were fill in the blanks as well as multiple choice. When I looked this up online some said that that is not true and that the exam is the same no matter what country you are taking it.

So now I'm confused, has the listening section format changed to what is the practice tests or is it still the same all multiple choice format?

Can someone give me any information regarding this topic?

IELTS Listening Test Question Types

The IELTS Listening Test has always had a mix of question types, usually multiple choice and various types of gap fill. There are others as well, for instance matching letters to statements.

I guess it's possible that when you took the test, most of the questions were multiple choice but it seems odd that they would all be like that as IELTS like to mix up the question types.

The same test is used in many countries but because of different time zones they won't necessarily have exactly the same test in every country (but either way - there is a mix of question types).

The listening test has mix questions from multiple choice to gap filling, maps...it's not only one type of question structure.
